Yes. I get this too. It's not really a backfire, just noises that a cat (or a stock-like exhaust) eliminate.

Does anyone notice a "backfire" coming from the exhaust?

When I race my friend, he says he notices a "pop" sound coming from the exhaust and an accompanying puff of smoke. I figure that's normal for a car with a test pipe.

Recently, when I was messing around at WOT, I noticed (with my moonroof open) that the "pop" sound is really loud. I heard it when I was shifting from 2nd to 3rd at redline. Sounded like a gun going off. . . is this normal? Of course, I backed off the throttle. . .

Mine does it too. I think it sounds like a flame or back fire. I've been told that at night my car shoots a flame if I shift at redline. It's done it several times.

Make sure there are no exhaust leaks, but yes, that popping is normal. There's always a little unburned fuel, especially at WOT, that makes it into your test pipe. It's hot enough in your test pipe to ignite the fuel, which in this case, is acting much like an expansion pipe on a 2-cycle. My friend has a 3rd gen RX-7 with no cats and he shoots flames when he lets off the throttle after going wide open.

yea my car does it too. Especally with the 3" thermal on it with just a muffler. If listen to my video on the other thread I made you can kinda hear it when I shift mildly.
